Xander and Shakirah
Xander & Shakira were determined to transform the Ashwood Wetlands, adjacent to their school. The Wetland were severely degraded and littered with rubbish.
With a focus on plant biodiversity, they were granted a BYF Grant to help restore and regenerate the area. Funds were used to purchase materials. They consulted a horticulturist and recruited many volunteers; they cleaned, painted and planted.
‘We filled the space with a variety of indigenous plants and now it’s up to them to grow and spread throughout the wetlands.’
The school now uses the regenerated wetlands frequently as a place to study plant biodiversity.
